The Full moon of the eight-month on Asarnha Bucha Day |
Asarnha Bucha Day is one of the important days for Buddhism that tropically takes place in July, on the full moon of the eighth month. Asarnha Bucha Day commemorates the day on which the Lord Buddha preached his first sermon called “The Dhamachakapavattana Sutta” to his first five chief disciples more than 2500 years ago.
The first’s sermon contained four great truths, which lead to Nirvana and are foundational doctrines of Buddhism. This year is on 21 July 2013. What is Thai Buddhism do on this day? Thai people will make merit by offering food to monks and listening to Sermons in the temples.
In the evening, we will go to the temple to do the Candlelight Procession or Wian Tian. In Thai Wian mean to walk in the cycle, and Tian means candle. To do the candlelight procession will by walking three times around the temple in a clockwise direction by carrying the candlelight, Joss sticks, and flowers.
You can visit and see Thai traditions on Wian Tian day in every temple in Bangkok or another big ceremony and beautiful Buddha image in Phutthamonthon which is in the district that adjoins Bangkok. In addition today is a Buddhism holiday, the alcohol does not allow selling on this day.
