The Bangkok City Pillars Shrined was probably King Rama I, who erected the first city pillar on April 21,1782 after he found Bangkok to be his capital from Thonburi. The shrine was actually the first building of his new capital, the Palace and other buildings were created later. 

The City Pillar Shrine has several buildings, Most Thai people will visit here to make merit and pay respect to the deities and others to find incense and flowers or other items for sale, on many occasions such as the New Year, Birth Day, and the Buddha lent day.

Moreover around the City Pillars Shrine also has a vendor with small cages offering them for you to release the birds inside as a method of making merit too. The Pillar has actually two places - a big pillar representing the Male and a smaller pillar symbolizing the Female deity protecting the city. 

The Bangkok City Pillars Shrine is located near the Temple of the Emerald Buddha Mahachai Road, Phra Borom Maha Ratchawang, Phra Nakhon,

Bangkok. The Thai language is called Lak Mueng. Therefore if you plan to visit here, you can go early and visit the Bangkok City Pillar Shrine first, then just across the road only a few steps to Grand Palace.
