Wat Arun Ratchawararam Ratchaworamahawihan (Wat Chaeng)

Wat Arun Ratchawararam Ratchaworamahawihan (Wat Chaeng) is a temple that enshrines Phra Buddha Maha Manee Ratana Patimakorn. (Emerald Buddha) that was brought from Vientiane. This temple is located on Arun Amarin Road along the Chao Phraya River on the Thonburi side, opposite Wat Pho. 


It is a temple that has existed since the Ayutthaya period. Originally, this temple was named Wat Chaeng. Later, when King Krung Thon Buri moved the capital from Ayutthaya to Krung Thon Buri.
King Krung Thonburi has graciously assigned Wat Chaeng to be a temple in the royal area. and established as a first-class royal temple Woramahaviharn type, which enshrines Phra Buddha Maha Manee Rattana Patimakorn (Emerald Buddha) brought from Vientiane.

Later, when King Krung Thon Buri moved the capital from Ayutthaya to Krung Thon Buri. King Krung Thonburi has graciously assigned Wat Chaeng to be a temple in the royal area. and established as a first-class royal temple Woramahaviharn type, which enshrines Phra Buddha Maha Manee Rattana Patimakorn (Emerald Buddha) brought from Vientiane.

This temple was renovated during the reign of King Rama II, so it is considered the temple of the reign.
When the temple was restored, King Rama II gave it the name Wat Arun Ratchatharam. Later, in the reign of King Rama III, he ordered the construction of a large pagoda with a height of 82 meters and a width of 234 meters. The temple was completed during the reign of King Rama IV and was renamed Wat Arun, as it is called today.

How To Get There :

By Boat:

- You can take a boat to Tha Tien. After that, take a ferry from the Phra Nakhon side and get off at the pier in front of Wat Arun or you can take the Chao Phraya Express Boat to get off at Wat Arun.

-Take BTS to Saphan Taksin Station S6 (Silom Line), take Exit 2, and after that take the Chao Phraya Express Boat at Sathorn Pier to Wat Arun Ratchawararam.

By Car:

From Pinklao Road Turn onto Arun Amarin Road. Passing in front of Siriraj Hospital, continue straight to the Naval Dockyard Department. You will see the entrance to Wat Arun on the left-hand side, not very far.

Open Hour: Open for visits every day from 7:30 AM to 5:30 PM.
