Exploring the Enigmatic Giant Rock Whales of North East Thailand

So much incredible scenery in North East Thailand. Yeah in typical Thai style, there are no guard rails on the top of the 3 Whale Rocks. As you mentioned Karl that type of rock can get a bit slick in the rain. Interesting pothole depressions there that are identical to the ones

I've seen it in Central Vietnam at Bà Nà. Similar longitude. We used to call those pothole pools "mosquito factories" in the 1990s... but usually in parks and tourist areas now they treat those mini ponds. For bigger ones they put frogs and small fish in them to eat the mosquito larvae.

The place I mentioned in Vietnam is known as "Ba Na Station" now and it's been developed more. I took a Honda Cub 70 over 3 "monkey bridges" each way to get up there in the mid-1990s to get water samples. One of my Timberline boots got sucked right off my foot in the mud up there. Now we have paved roads...

That kid Ploy seemed like a good trooper. She's getting valuable training dealing with Westerners even if she doesn't get that yet... she will. Cheers - Merry Christmas !!
