Tourism-related businesses are not expected to be as active during the August 12th-14th Mother's Day long weekend in Thailand compared to last year due to high fuel, goods, and service prices, according to Yuthasak Supasorn, the governor of the Tourism Authority of Thailand.
He mentioned that the number of people expected to take one-day trips and those who spend a night or two away will generate tourism revenue of about 8.7 billion baht. This is a 5% decrease compared to last year.
According to him, the Korean drama "Kingdom" has boosted tourism in Bangkok, with an estimated 10.82% increase in visitors during the three-day weekend, equivalent to 600,000 people compared to the same period last year.
The northern provinces are expected to welcome approximately 290,000 visitors, generating an estimated tourism revenue of around 1.1 billion baht. Meanwhile, the eastern region is predicted to experience a decline in tourist visits by about 22.74%, with only approximately 360,000 visitors. Visits to the southern region are expected to decrease by approximately 10%, with an estimated 266,000 visitors generating 1.3 billion baht in revenue.
Meanwhile, the Tourism Council of Thailand presented its travel survey for the Mother’s Day holiday, which shows:
According to a recent survey, 23% of respondents have no travel plans, while 23% plan to travel within their own province. 21% plan to travel to neighboring provinces and stay overnight, 20% plan to travel to neighboring provinces but not spend the night, and 13% plan to travel across the region. The council also noted that many Thais had already traveled during the six-day holiday in late July and early August and that we are currently in the middle of the rainy season.
