History of Jim Thompson
Jim Thompson's real name is well known to Thai people as James Harrison Wilson Thompson. Around 1945, toward the end of World War II, Jim Thompson switched from architecture to New York to become a World War II volunteer soldier, and he was assigned to a mission in Thailand.
When World War 2 ended Jim Thompson also resides in Thailand as Head of Strategic Station in Bangkok and is responsible for the restoration of the US Embassy.
In 1946, Jim Thompson was discharged from the army and lived in Thailand. During that time, he traveled to many places in the Northeast and was very interested in the domestic silk-farming and weaving industries that differed from machine-made silk.
Jim Thompson then became a businessman and brought samples of traditional silk to the United States. Eventually, he took Thai silk to sew and design silk clothes by Valentina, who is a famous clothing designer in New York and was featured in Vogue magazine. Finally, the Thai silk business became famous around the world.
